The Five Things I Learned In My First Week

Marketing is deceitfully complicated. Within the first two weeks of my internship at Mojo Media Labs, I had learned more than I thought possible. I’ve listed the five things that stick out the most about my experience:

1. HubSpot

HubSpot can seem tricky to understand, but it is truly an innovative tool for the marketer. HubSpot is software for marketers that covers every aspect of marketing. HubSpot includes a client and lead bank, social media monitoring, blog posting, and website management. It’s a tool that is not to be overlooked or underestimated.

 

2. The Importance of Data

Marketing is often perceived as the creative end of business, but data is more important than I knew possible. Data is used to make decisions from who to work with to what social media to use. Without it, your marketing actions would not be nearly as effective. The need for accurate and timely data is only ever-increasing so it’s important to jump on the data train now.

 

3. Buyer Personas

Buyer personas are not to be confused with the target markets. While they work together, they are not the same. The buyer persona is an individual within your segment that can affect your business. Buyer personas are also much more in-depth than a target market. Buyer personas include goals, challenges, and personality traits to help the marketer better understand what the client needs and then delight them.

 

4. Calls-to-Action

Calls-to-Action are what makes the consumer move. While inbound marketing strives to nurture a consumer to eventually convert into a paying customer, Calls-to-Action are what helps move the consumer along and get them to act. They can be as simple as a button that says, “Get a Quote” on a blog, but they need to be effective enough for a visitor or a lead to want more information.

 

5. Search Engine Optimization

Google is the first place most people look for information, so having a website and business that utilize search engines is vital. This includes both key words and long-tailed key words, natural language and intent matching. This will help your business become more trustworthy and get more views.

Working at Mojo has already taught me so much about Inbound Marketing. I’m looking forward to all the things I will learn this summer from the amazing team here!
