Beautiful websites are easy. With drag and drop templates, you can have your own stunning website in just 10 minutes
We’ve all heard the pitch. You might even know the feeling that follows signing up, when after 10 minutes you don’t have a beautiful website. Instead, you have the website equivalent of a Pinterest fail.
You have an Expectation vs. Reality meme (Exhibit A: classic Chia Bob Ross).
The truth is, greatness is not easily achieved. Your website matters. It is often your first impression to potential clients in the research phase of the buying cycle, or potential job candidates curious to learn more about your company. Users make a snap judgment about your brand when they see your homepage for the first time. What does it take to make a great website?
Usability studies show that in order to gain several minutes of user attention, you have to clearly communicate your value proposition within 10 seconds. No easy feat! A great website can make the difference between winning new clients or turning them off.
A truly beautiful and great website design is effortless for the user, but beneath the surface, there’s a lot going on. Like a graceful swan that glides across the water, all you experience is a smooth and easy to use website that looks amazing. You never see the churning chaos of webbed feet… or the insane amount of planning, time, effort, team experience, failures and triumphs that go into the design and development of a world-class website.
Think of Apple and Amazon and Google. So simple. They make it look easy!
Mastery is Mesmerizing
One of my favorite artists is Lady Gaga and I love to watch her live performances because she’s a master at her craft. Did you see her performance at the Oscars? It was mesmerizing. She is effortlessly poised on stage, every note and every look is perfect, and you think “she makes it look so easy.” Before you can even think “I can do that,” I dare you to get in your car and belt out the chorus of her Oscar-winning song, Shallow. (If you do, record it and send it to me immediately. Not joking.)
You don’t think about the hours of preparation, let alone years of hard work, that went into her performance. You probably don’t think about the stagecraft or her vocal technique or the non-traditional structure of the song. (Unless you’re me at 3am having all of these thoughts after watching the performance 10 times.) Yes, I could write an entire essay about it, but let’s move on.
Stay with me because I’m taking you back down to earth.
You don’t want a beautiful website that you can make in 10 minutes—that’s obviously not going to cut it for a B2B website. A custom website design and development solution that delivers ridiculous results will require more.
You want effortlessness, you don’t want easy. You want the Lady Gaga of websites. Or, the LeBron James of websites, if you prefer a sports analogy.
Open your browser and give your website a cold hard look in the light of day. You can evaluate your website with our Website Self-Audit Kit here . What does your website say about you? Does it say “We are masters at our craft, and we’re going to make this experience really easy for you.” Do your customers, prospects, talent pool, and curious visitors get that easy breezy feeling when they visit your website?
“A Pretty Website is the Goal, but Greatness is My Vision.” — adapted lyric from the legendary Childish Gambino
Our Director of Marketing Success has started a mantra that now bounces around Mojo internal marketing conversations. It’s this: “I want us to be the f***ing best.” If that isn’t a motivating battle cry for you, I don’t know what is. We want to be the best. We want our clients to be the best. We want to make great websites, great marketing campaigns, and great relationships with our clients. It’s hard work. If that sounds like the attitude you want in a digital agency, you should get in touch.
If great websites were easy, everyone would have one.
“If you are at home, and you're sitting on your couch and you're watching this right now, all I have to say is that this is hard work. I've worked hard for a long time, and it's not about…winning. It's about not giving up. If you have a dream, fight for it. There's a discipline for passion. And it's not about how many times you get rejected or you fall down or you're beaten up. It's about how many times you stand up and are brave and you keep on going. Thank you!" — Lady Gaga, acceptance speech at the 2019 Academy Awards.
